There are many tips that promise to help bring a quick home sale. However, there is only one that requires a shovel and a prayer. Many people believe that burying a statue of St. Joseph in the yard will help a home sell faster. "In general, sales of Saint Joseph statues tend to rise when the market sours," said Lara Traina, director of marketing and web management at Catholic Supply. "When home prices were stagnant, the sales of St. Joseph more than doubled. When prices began to creep back up St. Joseph sales dropped." Here is how it works: Bury a St. Joseph statue in your yard upside-down, facing the house.  Most people place it near the for sale sign - mainly so they remember where it is buried and it can be dug up after the sale. Then, it is recommended that the statue is placed in a prominent place in the new home as a sign of thanks. Don't have a yard? Don't worry! Simply bury the statue in a potted plant. These statues are typically sold for around $10. There are even kits that come with instructions and a prayer card. Some people obtain their Saint Joseph statue from a Catholic Church. Even the pros believe this faithful fallacy works. "We had our house for sale for several months. My husband, daughter and I followed the guidelines for the Saint Joseph statue, [and] the house sold in a few days!" said Ruhl&Ruhl agent Shirley Masterson. "My family buried another statue the next time we sold our house. We lived on a lake and also had a boat. One day my husband came home and said I buried the statue facing the wrong way. Confused I said 'no I didn't'. Grinning, he said 'yes you did. I sold the boat'," said Shirley. Whether for superstition or faith, a number of people have turned to the Patron Saint in the hopes that he'll deliver. The details are debated, but the training, skills and experience of a Ruhl&Ruhl sales associate are not. If you are ready to list your home, contact one of our sales associates today!
